Pharma entrepreneurs urge industry to address compliance issues
Dilip Shanghvi, managing director of the country’s largest drug maker Sun PharmaBSE -1.49 %, Pankaj Patel, chairman and MD of Zydus Cadila, and Rajiv Modi, CMD of Cadila Pharmaceuticals, also urged drug makers to innovate to leap to the next level of growth in the sector. “I see India as the potential pharmacy hub of the world; if we make a few changes to the way we do business in India, we can accelerate that process,” Shanghvi said at the Make in India week in Mumbai on Tuesday. “We should focus on fixing the compliance. If we achieve the regulatory capability where mutual recognition of manufacturing in India is accepted globally, it will significantly improve the perception of quality of Indian products,” he said.
